2008 Activity Log

Kokanee Power Members are involved with many projects throughout the year. Here's a quick synopsis of some of the 2008 activities that have been featured previously on the Kokanee Power What's Happening section on the Home page or in the Kokanee Power Kronicle newsletters. Many of our projects are documented in our Photo Galleries or Message Forums where you can see and read first hand reports of many of these events.

New Melones Pen cleaning Maintenance - The anuual pen cleaning maintenance was performed Oct. 25th, 2008 in prepration for the fish that are planted in the fall to fatten up and grow before they are released in the late Spring.
Taylor Creek Egg Collection - On Oct. 22nd 2008 a third and final egg collection was performed with the eggs being sent to San Joaquin Hatchery. A resident bear was seen feasting on the Kokanee this year as well as some really large Kokanee were in the mix that were up to 21 inches.
Lake Almanor Pen Repairs - On Oct. 18,19 2008 KP and Inland Fisheries volunteers helped the Almanor Fishing Association repair and raise their pens in preparation for the upcoming trout plant.
Little Truckee Egg Collection - On Oct. 15th, 2008 a second egg collection was performed and another batch of eggs were sent to the San Joaquin hatchery.
Little Truckee Egg Collection - Volunteers from Kokanee Power and Project Kokanee worked with the DFG on this initial egg collection. on Oct.8th 2008
DFG Joint funding presentation with Project Kokanee - On Sept 24th, 2008 Kokanee POwer and Project Kokanee presented the DFG with joint checks of $5,400 each that will go toward the Kokanee hatchery operations.
Scottish Rite Kids Fishing Derby - Shaver Lake - At Shaver Lake each year the Scottish Rite of Fresno hosts a spectacular fishing derby at Shaver Lake. Proceeds from this derby support the Scottish Rite Center for Language Disorders – a center designed to give kids the extra attention they need to cope with learning and language disorders. Kokanee Power is proud to be a sponsor of this important event once again this year that was held on June 7, 2008
Hooked on Fishing Lake Yosemite - June 7th, 2008- Kokanee Power helped out with this free fishing event for the 4th year in a row. Click on the event for more information and photos of this year's event.
C.A.S.T. for Kids event at New Melones Reservoir, KP was an official sponsor for this special event on June 7th, 2008 for the "Catch A Special Thrill" event. $2,000 in funding was provided which was used to help disabled and dis-advantaged kids go fishing for a day with the event volunteers.
New Melones Trout Released - The Trophy Rainbows and Browns were released April 29, 2008. These fish were put into the pens in early December and grew to the 2-3 lb class
Shasta Lake Trophy Trout Pen Release - April 28th, 2008 - All the trout planted in late November in the four Kokanee Power trout pens were released. Over 3000+ trophy size rainbows were released from four participating resorts, Sugarloaf Cottages, Tsasdi Resort, Antlers and Holiday Harbor.
Take a Kid Fishing in the City - May 13, 2008 - Kokanee Power participated again this year in this wonderful event for the kids and donated money and volunterr resources for this event.
