The Shasta Tournament was one for the records books as the Nick Brito team weighed in a 28.74 lb. two day combined weight. This was all despite the very “active” weather on Saturday that brought stormy conditions to add to the challenges. The King Salmon are making a comeback as 9 were weighed in that were in the 16-18 inch class so they will be really big next year. Besides the large Rainbows in the 3-4 lb class that managed to bless a few anglers there were two Kokanee weighed in….yes… that’s right, the Kokanee may be making a comeback after being absent the last few years. They were only 10 and 11 inches (2 year fish) but there were more to be seen on the fish finders as reported and these Kokanee were by-catch from targeting trout. The lake also has a very healthy supply of Browns that were any where from 6 inches to 7+ lbs but a lot of 2-4 pound fish that will be much bigger next year.
