Another successful Stampede Kokanee Derby goes into the record books. One hundred thirty-five determined anglers comprising fifty-seven teams gathered on this 25th day of July with the intent of being one of the fifteen winning teams.

It was a floating city of lights off in the distance from the launch ramp just minutes prior to the 5:30am start, evidence of a smooth derby start. A few minutes later it was derby time and down went the lead, wire, and myriad of lures and tackle.

The morning gave our anglers fair action with many boats finding good fish just outside the launch ramp, near the big island, and adjacent to the dam. A steadier bite would have made the morning perfect. As the morning progressed, the bite got tougher for most with a few teams staying on the bite.

Late morning, the bite shut down. It was slim pickins the rest of the day but determined anglers found fish as the trolling continued. Soon enough, the 2 o?clock weigh in arrived and it was time to hit the weigh-in line.

This year?s fish averaged just over 14 inches with a really good showing of fish 16 inches and weighing in at just over a pound. This year, it took 45 ounces (3 fish weight) to qualify for the Top 15 winners line up. Fifty-seven plus ounces proved to be the top weight which wins this years derby.

Once again, Perry Coy?s BBQ treated our anglers to a fantastic lunch featuring smoked tri tip, smoked pork, and all the fixins.

Our anglers also participated in an another great raffle sponsored by Cabelas, Mountain Hardware, and The Davey Tree Company.

Sincerest Thanks to all our sponsors for supporting this year?s Stampede event.

And so concludes the 2009 Stampede Kokanee Team Derby. Many thanks to the anglers who participated. Without your support, Kokanee Power would not be the success it is today.

Respectfully,

Al Millan
Vice President, Kokanee Power
