The 2006 Inaugural Pine Flat Trout Derby was wet and fun to say the least! The previous day greeted arriving anglers with torrential downpours, flash floods, and lightning....not a good thing for a derby. On derby day, Mother Nature decided to give us trout chasers a break. Saturday gave us calm overcast skies, a slight breeze, and an occassional shower. Fishing was steady with fish caught all day and a strong bite early in the morning. The radio was alive with anglers reporting in with steady hook-ups and the occasional double. The beautiful trout of Pine Flat Lake were found mostly at the top 15 feet near the surface. Flatline trolling was the norm. Many anglers brought in limits with others bringing in one or two fish short of a limit. The weigh-in festivites were held at the Piedra American Legion adjacent to the Deer Creek Marina. Kokanee Power wishes to thank the generous folks at Doyal\'s General Store in helping us with derby registrations, the folks at Deer Creek Marina for allowing anglers to dock during the weigh-in, and the guys at the Piedra American Legion for giving us a dry place to have our weigh-in and luncheon. Many thanks to YOU, the people who participated in this derby and thus making it a successful and fun inaugural derby. The 2007 Pine Flat Derby promises to be an even bigger event and hopefully, a drier one. See you in \'07!!
